Fastpitch travel softball team to conduct tryouts

Indiana Nitro Fastpitch 16-and-under softball tryouts will be at 2 p.m. today at the Northside Middle School diamond. The team plays five fall, one winter and eight summer tournaments.

The team is looking for a pitcher and quality infielders and outfielders. Players should have some travel fastpitch experience.

Registration open for soccer academy

The Academy at Columbus Express is accepting registrations.

The academy is a learning-centered program designed for boys and girls born between 2008 and 2011. Interested players must sign up before the academy begins on Monday.

Senior Men’s Bowling League plans meeting

The Thursday Afternoon Senior Men’s Bowling League will have its organizational meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday at Columbus Bowling Center.

The league is open to bowlers 50 and older, and bowlers can come alone or bring friends to form a team. The league will begin at 1 p.m. Aug. 31 and continue each Thursday, except Thanksgiving week.

Registration available for fall softball league

The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its fall softball league until Sept. 1. No late registrations will be accepted.

League games will be Monday and Wednesday evenings at Gaiser and Shields Parks. A $200 team sponsor fee and a minimum of 10 $15 player fees are required at the time of registration.

Scholarship outing to benefit finance student

The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors-Columbus 2017 Scramble for Scholarships will be at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 at Otter Creek Golf Course. A breakfast buffet and sign-in will be at 8 a.m.

Cost is $100 per player and includes, 18 holes with a cart, breakfast, lunch, snacks, competitive holes and team awards and golfer gift bags. The scholarship will benefit an IUPUC finance major.

Golfers may register as individuals, partners or teams. To register, mail a check with players’ names and captain’s email address to NAIFA-Columbus, P.O. Box 1772, Columbus, IN 47202.

Harlem Wizards to play local team in Columbus

The Harlem Wizards basketball team will play the BCSF Stars, a team of teachers, principals, administrators and community members, at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at Columbus North High School.

Former Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. superintendent Jim Roberts will be the coaches. Doors open at 1 p.m.

Registration open for Harvest Bicycle Boogie

The Autumn Harvest Bicycle Boogie will be Oct. 7, beginning and ending at the Columbus Learning Center. Registration will be from 8 to 10 a.m., and riders may start at anytime after registering.

Bicyclists can pick from rides of 12, 30 or 55 miles. Cost is $25 through Oct. 5 or $30 the day of the event, with proceeds benefiting the IUPUC Alumni Association Scholarship Program.
