Auditions start for ‘Laramie Project’

Audition dates have been set for “The Laramie Project,” a play to be presented by Ensemble Theatre Columbus in collaboration with Pride Alliance Columbus.

Audition dates are 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Monday and Tuesday in the Xenia Miller Conference Room on the second floor of The Commons.

Director Jill Tasker and producer John Pickett are seeking a cast of up to five men and five women who will play multiple roles in the production, planned for late October, Pickett said. Actors of all skill levels are encouraged to audition, he said.

“The Laramie Project” (2000) is a play by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project about reaction to the 1998 murder of a gay college student, Matthew Shepard, in Laramie, Wyoming. The murder was denounced as a hate crime and brought attention to the lack of hate crime laws in various states.

The production is supported by a Welcoming Community grant from Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County as part of Exhibit Columbus, a project of Landmark Columbus.

Auditions may be scheduled by contacting Tasker via email at [email protected] or by calling Pickett at 317-753-6372.
