Franciscan Health offers program on palliative care

Franciscan Health is offering a session on palliative care and advance directives in its continuing Stethoscope Series in Columbus.

“Defining the Role and Value of Palliative Care Medicine” is planned at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St.

Dr. David Mandelbaum, medical director of Franciscan Health Indianapolis Palliative Care Services and co-director of Hospice Care, will talk about advance care planning, living wills and the role of health care representatives. He also will discuss power of attorney and how palliative care works when coordinated with other health care providers to improve the quality of life for patients.

The event is free but registration is encouraged.
