Nine Bartholomew County 4-H members competed in the Indiana State Fair 4-H tractor competition, and seven earned top-three finishes, including three who earned firsts.
They competed against 180 other 4-H’ers in six categories Aug. 11 inside Farmers Insurance Coliseum in Indianapolis.
The contests consisted of a written examination of general knowledge of safety and operation of farm and lawn equipment, parts identification of equipment to be operated and a driving skills test. The 4-H’ers operated a lawn tractor, a zero-turn lawn mower or an ag tractor pulling an implement through a defined course.
Those who earned top-three finishes were:
Junior lawn tractor: Jenna Boewe, second; Weston Romine, third
Junior zero-turn mower: Corbin Arnholt, first; Heidi Murphy, third
Senior lawn tractor: Brendan Boewe, first.
Senior zero-turn mower: Daniel Murphy, first; Wyatt Romine, third.
Brendan Boewe and Daniel Murphy will represent Indiana at the National Engineering Event from Sept. 24 to 26 in Lafayette.
