Local man, woman accused of theft from storage units

Staff Reports

Columbus police arrested two people for taking items from a storage unit facility after receiving a report about suspicious people carrying bolt cutters.

Columbus Police Department officers Marc Hutcheson and Matthew Prendergast were sent to Storage Express, 2650 Eastwood Drive, at 2 a.m. Friday where they found a vehicle with a license plate that had been taken off the car and placed inside the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers then saw two suspects use the bolt cutter to enter one of the storage units, and later identified them as Cody R. Manvilla, 26, Taylorsville, and Christina L. Michael, 43, of 6714 S. Jonesville Road, who were arrested, Harris said.

The officers recovered the bolt cutters and a number of padlocks that had been cut. The officers confirmed Manvilla had five local arrest warrants pending, and he and Michael were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on four preliminary counts of theft, Harris said.

Both are being held on a 48-hour hold at the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
