MACON, Ga. — A decomposed body has been found behind a shopping center in Georgia.

The Telegraph of Macon reports that Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says the body found behind the North Park II shopping center in Macon on Saturday had likely been there for a while. It was discovered after a crew cutting grass smelled an odor.

Jones says the body appears male, but the level of decomposition makes it difficult to determine age or race.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Randy Gonzalez says a backpack was found near the body, and investigators are trying to determine if foul play was involved.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Authorities have not identified the body.
