PHOENIX — Authorities say a house fire in east Phoenix has claimed the life of a 91-year-old woman.

Fire Capt. Reda Bigler says the victim died after being pulled from the home in extremely critical condition early Tuesday morning.

Neighbors reported a carport fire and responding firefighters from Phoenix and Scottsdale found that the fire had spread inside the home. They searched inside the home and found the victim.

A caretaker who also was at the home was treated for burns to her neck and arms. She reportedly suffered those injuries while trying to re-enter the home to reach the older woman.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

The location is North 60th Street and East Thomas Road.
