Robert Louis Burkhart, 76, of Columbus, died unexpectedly at 6:17 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017, at his residence.

Bob retired from Cummins Engine Company after 40 years of service. He loved the outdoors and antiques. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Bob was a lifetime member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis officiating. Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or St. Bartholomew Catholic School.

Bob was born on February 22, 1941, to the late John Raymond and Hilda Thrine Burkhart in Greensburg, IN.

On October 7, 1967, he married Betty Striecker at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; children; James Burkhart, Julie (Rick) Risley, Jeff Burkhart, all of Columbus, and Justin Burkhart of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Yates Burkhart, Emma Risley, Claire Risley and Adeline Risley; siblings, Richard Burkhart, Stella Vanderpohl, Russell (Betty) Burkhart, Ralph Burkhart, Paul (Patty) Burkhart, Thelma (Don) Griewe, Rita (Larry) Dickman, Margie (Bill) Eldridge, all of Greensburg; and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
