ANDERSON, S.C. — A man has been arrested and charged with killing his stepfather in South Carolina.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Edward Allen Scroggs of Anderson was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder.

An arrest warrant says Scroggs is charged with killing 48-year-old Barry Clayton Eaton of Pelzer on Monday.

Sgt. Ryan Flood told local media outlets that the men were fighting around 6 p.m. Monday. Officers found Eaton unresponsive at his home. He died about an hour later at a hospital.

The warrant says Eaton was hit in the head and body.

Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said the victim died from hardening of the arteries combined with blows to the head.

It was not known if Scroggs has an attorney.
