Gospel Music Week concerts planned through Saturday

J.C. Brown’s 38th annual Gospel Music Week concerts are slated from 7 to 9 p.m. today through Saturday at Southside Elementary School auditorium, 1320 W. County Road 200 South in Garden City.

Brown is the late Southern gospel music singer and longtime radio show disc jockey who launched the free shows to celebrate and promote the genre and the faith connected to it.

Brown also pastored Trinity Baptist Church in Columbus for a time before his death on March 1, 2011.

The event always features a mix of well-known, local and regional groups with nationally touring acts. Today’s performances include the founder’s son, Michael Brown, and his family.

Sunday’s headliner is the Steve Brady Family from Plant City, Florida.

Offerings will be taken for the performing groups, according to organizers.
