AUGUSTA, Maine — A leading Maine Democrat and veteran says he will run against Republican U.S. Rep Bruce Poliquin.
Democratic Assistant Majority Leader Jarden Golden would face an incumbent with a $1.1 million war chest in Maine’s 2nd congressional district. The district gave a historic single electoral vote to Republican President Donald Trump in November.
Golden is a Marine who served four years in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a campaign ad, he said he’ll work on infrastructure and bringing back jobs and criticized Poliquin’s stance on health care.
Other Democrats who have announced runs includes former state Senate candidate Jonathan Fulford, restaurateur Tim Rich, mail carrier Phil Cleaves and bookseller Craig Olson.
Poliquin campaign adviser Brent Littlefield said Golden voted against welfare reforms and earned a poor rating from the National Rifle Association.
