NEW YORK — Police in New York City say a missing swimmer has died after being pulled from waters off Queens.

Authorities say 19-year-old Keith Johnson, of the Bronx, struggled to swim back to shore after entering the water near the Rockaway boardwalk around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police arrived at the scene and learned the man had not resurfaced.

Police divers located Johnson around 8:30 p.m. The man was rushed to St. John’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police continue to investigate.
