TOWN OF FRANKLIN, Wis. — Authorities have identified a man who was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in Kewaunee County.

Deputies responded to a call of a man threatening a woman and others with a knife in a rural area on Monday night.

The sheriff’s office says 22-year-old suspect Tyler Whitmire was shot by a deputy when he confronted authorities, and pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy hasn’t been named. The officer has been placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
