LANHAM, Md. — A Maryland State trooper was injured when his patrol vehicle was rear-ended by a man police say was texting while driving.
The agency said in a news release that the crash occurred during Friday’s morning rush hour on Interstate 495 in a Maryland suburb of Washington. Authorities say Trooper Austin Mueller was on routine patrol when he saw a driver texting.
Officials say Mueller activated the cruiser’s emergency lights and pulled in front of the other car. Troopers say traffic slowed and the other car crashed into the cruiser.
Mueller was taken to a hospital. The driver of the other car, 26-year-old Deangelo Price of Rockville, was not injured.
Price has been charged with using a handheld phone while vehicle is in motion and other offenses.
