DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Scott County jury has convicted a Davenport man of second-degree murder for a stabbing death last year in a city park.

The Quad-City Times reports that 43-year-old William Crawford was found guilty Friday in the Aug. 18, 2016, killing of 29-year-old Romane Nunn Sr. in Davenport’s LeClaire Park. Crawford had been charged with first-degree murder, but the jury opted for the lesser charge.

Crawford will be sentenced Oct. 5.

Prosecutors say Crawford fatally stabbed Nunn in the chest. Two other men, 46-year-old Terrell Bloch and 35-year-old Durell Parks Jr., participated in the assault and have pleaded guilty to lesser charges. They await sentencing.

Prosecutors say Crawford falsely thought Nunn had sexually assaulted his girlfriend the night before. Police say Nunn was never a suspect in the assault.
