WENTWORTH, N.C. — Authorities in North Carolina have charged a man in connection with the stabbing of a 44-year-old woman and a 7-year-old child.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that Eden police have charged 34-year-old Christopher Raymond Ellison with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Sgt. Kevin Suthard said police officers and sheriff’s deputies responding on Aug. 17 found the victims at an apartment. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious.

Officers confronted Ellison after a search, and he was shot and wounded by police. Authorities didn’t say whether Ellison was armed.

Ellison was released from the hospital on Thursday and jailed under a $1 million bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
