GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three people face charges after members of a North Carolina police department were shot at as they tried to serve a search warrant.

A news release from the Greensboro Police Department said officers were trying to serve the warrant at a home before dawn Friday when they were shot at as they entered. Authorities had received a tip that narcotics were being sold at the home.

No officers were hit, and they didn’t return fire.

Police said 40-year-old Virgil Lee Ireland is facing a variety of charges, including three counts of assault with a deadly weapon against a law enforcement officer. The others two are facing drug charges.

Officers seized a variety of narcotics and more than $2,000 in cash from the search.
