NEW YORK — Police in New York City are searching for a man who they say slashed a 15-year-old girl during an attempted robbery.

WCBS-TV reports (http://cbsloc.al/2wanWqg ) the attack happened around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday in Queens. Police say the suspect displayed a knife and demanded the victim give him her cellphone. Investigators say when the girl refused and tried to run away, the suspect slashed her left leg.

Police say the suspect fled.

The girl was treated at a nearby hospital.

Police continue to investigate.
