SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for a wreck that killed two college students in South Carolina last year.
Spartanburg County prosecutor Barry Barnette said in a news release that 49-year-old Hollis Gene Brock of Inman pleaded guilty to two counts of felony driving under the influence resulting in death and one count of DUI resulting in great injury.
The head-on crash Dec. 23 killed 19-year-old Melissa Marie Frilot of Spartanburg and 19-year-old Kortlynn Breanna Smith of Inman.
Nineteen-year-old Daisy Byrd of Inman suffered two broken legs and a broken arm.
Investigators said Brock’s car crossed the center line of state Highway 9 and hit Frilot’s car.
Frilot died at the scene. Smith died at Spartanburg Medical Center.
Brock suffered a broken neck in the crash.
