PORT MANSFIELD, Texas — The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued a dozen people from a boat taking on water near Port Mansfield, Texas, about 120 miles south of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Coast Guard officials issued a statement Friday evening saying that the 160-foot commercial diving vessel Gulf Justice was taking on water in the early hours of Friday around 3:40 a.m. After a tug boat was unable to assist, the Coast Guard launched two helicopter crews about 12:40 p.m. to rescue the 12 people before Hurricane Harvey hindered the agency’s efforts.

The aircrews were able to remove seven people from the ship about 1 p.m. and return to remove the remaining five people about 2 p.m. The passengers were taken to Charles R. Johnson Airport in Port Mansfield, Texas.
