NORTH COURTLAND, Ala. — After a dozen years as attorney for North Courtland and Hillsboro, Thomas Denham has resigned.

The Decatur Daily reports Denham said the reasons for his departure from both positions include the fact that his practice is growing and his pursuits outside of practicing law are consuming more of his time. He says the decision has nothing to do with North Courtland’s financial struggles.

North Courtland Mayor Riely Evans did not return calls seeking comment on the resignation, whichDenham says Evans accepted Aug. 17.

Denham isn’t just dropping North Courtland. A resident of Hillsboro, he said he would be stepping down as that town’s attorney, too. Denham says he told Hillsboro Mayor Charles Owens he needs to begin looking for a replacement.

Owens declined immediate comment.
