LUCEDALE, Miss. — Two people have been arrested for tattooing without a license in Mississippi’s George County.

The sheriff’s office says 35-year-old Brian Tempel and 23-year-old Marie Kirkland also face charges of violating the state’s health department rules and regulations. They were released Wednesday on bond and were ordered to appear later in George County Justice Court.

WLOX-TV reports multiple people filed complaints about a home in the county that was being used to provide illegal tattoos to both adults and minors. After obtaining a warrant to search the residence, investigators also found stolen property and illegal drugs.

Authorities warn that receiving tattoos from an unlicensed artist, in unsanitary conditions, puts people at risk for hepatitis, HIV, and other blood-borne diseases.
