SWANSEA, S.C. — A woman died and two people were injured when a pickup truck struck a moped in South Carolina.

The State newspaper of Columbia reports the truck hit the moped from behind about 2:10 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 321 near Swansea, throwing off the moped riders.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher says the moped’s passenger, 26-year-old Jessica Dunn, died at the scene of multiple traumatic injuries. Dunn was wearing a helmet.

Lance Cpl. Matt Southern says the moped’s driver, Zachery Wingard of Gaston, was airlifted to a hospital in Columbia.

The pickup driver, Gerald Lundy of Neeses, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
