LIBERTY, S.C. — A man’s body has been found in some woods in northwestern South Carolina.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office told local media that the body was found late Sunday afternoon in some woods in Liberty by a passing motorist.

The department’s news release said the man is thought to be a person who was reported missing by a family member Sunday morning. The man had last been seen Friday. The man’s name has not been released.

There were no weapons near the body and deputies are investigating the case as a homicide.

An autopsy was planned Monday.
