ORANGE, Calif. — A woman accused of crashing her car into an Southern California police officer, critically injuring him, has pleaded guilty to drunken driving and other felonies.
Orange Police Officer Sharif Muzayen, who suffered major trauma to his legs and pelvis, underwent eight surgeries.
He limped into the courtroom Tuesday to witness Ashley V. Bertolino entered her guilty pleas. The 27-year-old is accused of having a blood alcohol level of .13 percent and being under the influence of drugs during the crash in December.
The officer was struck by her 2016 Hyundai while standing outside of his patrol vehicle.
The Orange County Register reports (http://bit.ly/2wi1EnT) Bertolino faces three years in prison when she’s sentenced Oct. 24..
Muzayen, a former Marine and father of two, says he hopes to rejoin the department after his long recovery process.
