E. Lynn Champion

INDIANAPOLIS

E. Lynn Champion died on Aug. 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Everett Lynn Champion on Jan. 26, 1937, to Paul and Elsie (Baute) Champion in Mt. Healthy, Columbus, Indiana.

He graduated from Columbus High School and Evansville College (now the University of Evansville). He graduated with the inaugural graduating class from Methodist Theological School in Ohio in 1963.

Following ordination, he served two churches in Indianapolis. He then joined the chaplaincy staff at Community Hospital in 1969 and retired from there in 2001 after having served as director of pastoral care.

He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Judith; his son, Dr. Stephen (Melanie)Champion ; his stepdaughters, Heather (Mark) Urschel and Juli (Michael) Carter; and his sister, Saundra Whipker of Columbus. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Jacob (Stacey) Champion, Joshua, Lauren and Miranda Champion, Ben and Sophie Urschel and Alexis and Eli Carter.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Sumeet Bhatia, Tricia Yoder, NP, and the rest of the staff at Community Cancer Center for giving him nine quality years.

Friends are invited to attend a celebration of this remarkable man’s life on Wednesday, August 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, 740 E. 86th St.
