WATERLOO, Iowa — Waterloo authorities say a jogger who died after being struck by a vehicle was a firefighter.

Authorities say 27-year-old Greg Freshwater died at Covenant Medical Center after he was struck just before 4 p.m. Tuesday. Police say he apparently didn’t see the oncoming vehicle before entering the roadway.

Fire Chief Pat Treloar says Freshwater joined Waterloo Fire Rescue in November and had been attending paramedic school. He’d been a firefighter in Marshalltown before being hired in Waterloo.
