Severe drought conditions in Bartholomew County, just a third of the normal amount of rainfall in an already-dry summer, drove area farmers to begin harvest activity early.

Donations from the community for “Operation Dixie Relief” to aid victims of Hurricane Andrew in Florida and Louisiana filled 342 large boxes at the National Guard Armory in Columbus.

Plans were announced for the $500,000 expansion and improvement of Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park, adding nearly 15,000 square feet of floor space and space for 400 more diners.
