FT. MYERS, FLORIDA
Mary Jo Chitwood of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life to the next on August 7, 2017, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida. She was surrounded by her five children, two of her grandchildren and her daughter-in-law throughout her transition.
She was born on November 24, 1933, in Bloomington, Indiana, to Robert and Alice (Bales) Hill. She is survived by her sister, Peg (John) Koontz of Social Circle, Georgia; her children, Sherrie (Lew) Grable of Columbus, Indiana, Mike Day of Bloomington, Indiana, Steve Chitwood of Ft. Myers, Florida, Lisa Johnson of Franklin, Indiana, and Buddy (Kathy) Chitwood of Ft. Myers, Florida. Mary Jo is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.
Mary Jo was a feisty lady who was not afraid to give you her opinion and did so frequently! She will be remembered as a sassy woman full of energy who loved to dance, shop (the flashier the outfit the better!) and interact with all age groups. She had a special place in her heart for her family and all children. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all who loved her.
In keeping with her wishes, Mary Jo was cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
