PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Two West Virginia girls who became the subjects of an Amber Alert have been found safe, and a man wanted in connection with their disappearance has been arrested.

News outlets report that 45-year-old Carl Ray Fortney was apprehended Wednesday near Petersburg following the alleged abduction of his daughter, 6-year-old Cheylynn Fortney, and stepdaughter, 14-year-old Cherity Hannon. According to the Amber Alert, the girls had been last seen in Huntington on Sunday.

An off-duty deputy responded to a report of a truck matching the description of the vehicle that Fortney was believed to be driving. The suspect and the children were found in the truck, and Fortney was arrested.

Fortney faces kidnapping and child abduction charges. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
