Sheila R. Kane

Sheila R. Kane, 81, of North Vernon, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. A rosary service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September, 4, 2017, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Born February 23, 1936, in Jennings County, Sheila was the daughter of Lawrence and Jessie Hiner Sprickerhoff. She married A. Lee Kane on April 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2015.

Sheila graduated from the Academy of Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, IN in 1953. She had owned and operated the Credit Bureau of North Vernon for 10 years and had worked at various offices at the Jennings County Courthouse. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Rosary Society and St. Mary’s Cemetery Board. She had taught preschool religion for 14 years, served in the choir and as a music cantor. Sheila was a member of Winding Waters Quilt Club and North Vernon Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, coloring, travel, and water aerobics.

She is survived by four sons, Patrick (Lisa) Kane of Carmel, Michael (Christie) Kane of Sellersburg, Tim (Lisa) Kane of Greensburg and James Kane of North Vernon; three daughters, Angie (Dan) James of Indianapolis, Carmel (Jay) Campfield and Felicia (Richard) Vogel, all of North Vernon; seventeen grandchildren, Kevin, Grant, Alex, Chris, Ryan, Nathan, Maggie, Luke and Austin Kane, Jed Campfield, Michael and Eric James, Colby, Jessi and Xavier Vogel, Katie Brumfield and Dylan Ralston; and six great-grandchildren, Weston, Camryn, and Emerson Kane, Mackenzie James, Jake and Lena Brumfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one grandson, Jacob Vogel.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, St. Mary’s School or Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand.
