BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana is seeking volunteers to help with a beach cleanup at Elmer’s Island.

The cleanup is scheduled Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. It’s being held in coordination with International Coastal Cleanup and National Estuaries Week.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says volunteers will clean about 2.5 miles of shoreline on Elmer’s Island. Water will be supplied, but participants are asked to bring refillable water bottles to reduce trash. Snacks and lunch will also be provided.

Department officials say volunteers will track the trash collected to provide insight into other ways to tackle the growing problem of shoreline pollution.

Interested volunteers are asked to pre-register here .
