MANCHESTER, N.H. — Two missionaries who caught one of the last flights out of Houston before the arrival of Hurricane Harvey are returning — with a truckload of supplies.
Rick and Ruth Odess say they began collecting donations of diapers, water and other items after reaching out to a church in Houston to find out what was needed.
WMUR-TV reports that the Somersworth couple cancelled Labor Day weekend plans to drive more than 30 hours to deliver the fruits of their neighbor’s generosity.
Ruth Odess said they couldn’t enjoy the holiday weekend “knowing that people didn’t have a home, knowing they didn’t have things they need to survive.”
They say the donations poured in so fast that they had to upgrade the size of the rented truck. They set off on Saturday.
