CAMDEN, N.J. — A suspect in a fatal gas station shooting who was captured after a lengthy standoff at his Camden home is now charged with murder.

Camden County prosecutors say 24-year-old Victor Ruiz also faces attempted murder and weapons charges stemming from Saturday night’s shooting. It wasn’t known Monday if he’s retained an attorney.

Authorities say Ruiz fatally shot 27-year-old Lamar Abdul Thompson and wounded a 26-year-old man, both Camden residents. An officer who happened to be nearby heard the shots and found the wounded man, who he drove to the hospital.

Additional officers soon found Thompson, who had been shot multiple times.

The subsequent investigation soon led police to Ruiz’s home. The standoff started a short time later and continued overnight until he was arrested without incident.
