NANJEMOY, Md. — A man accused of fatally shooting one person and injuring another in Maryland has turned himself in after a manhunt.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Brian Pierce surrendered to officers around 8 a.m. Tuesday at a district station in La Plata.

The sheriff’s office says Pierce shot two men Monday afternoon, one of whom died. Spokeswoman Diane Richardson says Pierce and the victims were acquaintances and preliminary information suggests an argument about money preceded the shooting.

Richardson says Pierce will be charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and other related counts. She didn’t know if he has an attorney.

After the shooting, the sheriff’s office said that Pierce’s car was found dead and that he may have fled on foot, in a boat or in another car.
