ATLANTA — A man wanted in connection with an early morning kidnapping and sexual assault is being sought in Atlanta.

WSB-TV reports that Atlanta police say a woman was kidnapped in Carroll County at knifepoint early Tuesday morning and made to drive toward Atlanta, around 50 miles (80 kilometers) east. The woman told investigators the suspect made her pull over on the interstate and then sexually assaulted her. She was later taken to an apartment complex in northeast Atlanta.

Capt. Brian Schiffbauer says the woman was able to alert her family of her location throughout the kidnapping by using pin locators on her phone. Police found them after the information was relayed, and a chase ensued. It’s unclear how the suspect escaped.

The woman is being evaluated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
