FALL RIVER, Mass. — Police in Massachusetts have charged a man police say tried to flee the scene after striking a 7-year-old boy with his car and pinning him to a wall.

The Herald News reports (http://bit.ly/2wDVLju ) 19-year-old David Fernandes, of Fall River, has been charged with multiple offenses including leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.

Police say Fernandes struck the boy while he was walking with his family near Burlington Coat Factory in Fall River on Sunday. The boy was pinned to the exterior store wall.

Officials say Fernandes struck other vehicles as he fled.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

An arraignment has been scheduled for Tuesday.
