WAKEFIELD, Mass. — Authorities say one person has been found dead after a late night fire at a Wakefield apartment building.

Firefighters responded to the six-unit Water Street building at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The body of a 71-year-old woman was found in a second-floor unit. Her name was not released.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Police say seven other residents evacuated safely. The Red Cross is assisting.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
