SHADY SIDE, Md. — Police have charged a man in the fatal shootings of a Maryland couple.

Anne Arundel County Police said in a news release Tuesday that the bodies of 44-year-old Linda McKenzie and 48-year-old Leslie Smith were found June 1 in the road. Investigators say the couple, who lived on a houseboat, had been shot.

Detectives say on Monday, officers obtained an arrest warrant 56-year-old Kirk Matthews with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of McKenzie and Smith. Police say all three knew one another, and the homicides were the result of an argument.

Matthews has been held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center since June 3 on unrelated charges.
