ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A North Carolina man is being held without bond in the death of a woman who was reported missing last week.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office told local news outlets that 26-year-old Shantonio Lucas is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Glorika Townsend.

Sheriff Keith Stone said Townsend had been reported missing since Thursday, and Lucas was arrested after her body was found Monday near U.S. 64 in the Momeyer community. Her car had been found in the parking lot of a building in Rocky Mount.

Stone said investigators haven’t determined a motive for the slaying, but he said Lucas and Townsend were familiar with each other.

Lucas made his first court appearance on Tuesday. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
