CENTERPORT, N.Y. — Police have arrested a suburban New York man on drunken driving charges after he allegedly struck his 13-year-old stepson while the boy was walking his dog near their home.
Another stepson, who’s 9, was a passenger in the car and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Scott Lipton was arraigned Tuesday on charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated and child endangerment. Defense attorney John Carman said his client was not intoxicated and called the crash a “freakish accident.” A judge set bail at $10,000.
Police say Lipton was driving his 2017 Jaguar when he hit the teenager and then a pole. The crash happened on Long Island shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.
Prosecutors and Carman said the boy suffered a broken femur.
Lipton and the mixed breed dog were not injured.
