ATLANTA — A man who police say used a machete in a carjacking and then crashed the car during a police chase has been hospitalized.

News outlets report police say a man wielding a machete forced his way into a car in southeast Atlanta just before midnight Tuesday. Police say the suspect made the victim drive around for about 30 minutes, and then hit the victim on the head with the machete and forced him out of the car.

Officers later spotted the car after the victim reported the carjacking, and a short chase ensued before the suspect crashed into an interstate entrance ramp. He was caught after trying to run.

The suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. His condition is unknown. The victim’s injuries do not appear to be serious.
