BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — A New Orleans-area health nonprofit has a long-term agreement to run a Mississippi hospital.

Ochsner (OX-ner) Health Systems says the Hancock County Board of Supervisors chose it Tuesday to operate Hancock Medical Center under a capital lease agreement, with an option for purchase.

Ochsner said in a news release that it will put $33.7 million in lease payments and capital investments into the hospital in Bay St. Louis, and will rename it Ochsner Hancock Medical Center.

Ochsner has been managing the hospital since 2013 under a strategic partnership.

Since then, says Ochsner, the hospital had its first positive operational cash flow in nearly a dozen years. It says that at the same time, patients are giving the hospital better ratings, and other quality measurements have improved.
