FRANKLINTON, N.C. — A North Carolina man suspected of shooting and killing two people, including a 17-year-old high school student, has turned himself in to authorities.

Local news outlets report 23-year-old Charles Devante Perry-Pender surrendered Tuesday morning and is charged with one count of murder.

Franklin County Sheriff Kent Winstead says Perry-Pender was being sought in connection with a Monday afternoon shooting just north of Franklinton. He says the shooting resulted from an argument and killed 28-year-old Montral Antonio Kearne and 17-year-old Demarius Barnes.

Barnes was a student at Franklinton High School.

Winstead says Perry-Pender and Kearne were next-door neighbors, and the argument that sparked the shooting stemmed from a past issue involving all three people.

It’s unclear if Perry-Pender has an attorney.
