HOLLINS, Ala. — A state inmate who walked away from a work site in Alabama’s Talladega County has been recaptured.

Law enforcement officials captured 56-year-old Cecil Glen West in a wooded area near Hollins at 1 a.m. on Thursday, a day after he fled. A Department of Corrections K-9 tracking team along with Coosa County sheriff’s deputies apprehended West without incident.

West had been assigned to the Childersburg Work Release Center when he escaped. West was paroled in 2011 after serving 15 years of a life sentence on a 1996 murder conviction in Talladega County. After his release, West was convicted of manufacturing a controlled substance and his parole was revoked in 2013.
