Council considers raise for city employees, elected officials

City employees are on track to receive 2 percent raises in 2018.

Columbus City Council members gave their initial approval in a 6-0 vote Tuesday to an ordinance that would provide 450 city employees a salary increase. City Councilman Dascal Bunch was not in council chambers when voting took place.

The council also gave its initial approval in a 5-2 vote to provide a 2 salary increase to Mayor Jim Lienhoop and Clerk-Treasurer Luann Welmer next year, but not for council members themselves. Councilmen Frank Jerome and Frank Miller had voted against the proposal.

A final vote on the pair of salary ordinances is planned during the council’s Sept. 19 meeting.
