Drop off hurricane donations Saturday in Clifford

A local effort to aid three small Texas communities affected by Hurricane Harvey will allow residents to drop off donations from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Clifford Volunteer Fire Department, 7850 N. Depot St.

Former Bartholomew County Coroner Larry Fisher is working with the Jefferson County (Texas) Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson to aid residents of Fannett, Hamshire and Winnie, all located southwest of Beaumont.

Fisher has secured the use of a semi-trailer from West Trucking and a driver from Grammer Industries to haul the donations to Texas, said Charlie DeWeese, a firefighter with Clifford Volunteer Fire Department.

Suggested donations include jugs of water, diapers, bedding, non-perishable food, hygiene products for men and women, and cleaning supplies, DeWeese said.

For more information, call Fisher at 812-343-2139 or DeWeese at 812-371-8296.
