A Jennings County man has been arrested for attempted murder in connection with an incident in July that left a 40-year-old Seymour man with life-threatening injuries, police report.
Gary Eugene Thomas, 32, of North Vernon was arrested by Seymour detective sergeants C.J. Foster and Greg O’Brien on Tuesday afternoon at the Jennings County Jail, where he was being held on a state parole violation, Foster said.
Thomas’ arrest stems from a stabbing reported to Seymour police at 8:57 p.m. July 20 in the 400 block of North Jackson Park Drive.
Officers responding to that area found a Seymour man had received numerous stab wounds to the upper chest and back, Foster said.
That man was attended to at the scene by police and medical personnel with Seymour Fire Department and Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before being taken to the helipad at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. He was then flown to St. Vincent Medical Center in Indianapolis by St. Vincent StatFlight for treatment of his injuries.
On Aug. 30, an arrest warrant signed by Jackson Circuit Court Judge Richard W. Poynter was issued for Thomas’ arrest.
Besides the attempted murder charge, which is a Level 1 felony, the warrant also charged Thomas with aggravated battery posing a substantial risk of death, a Level 3 felony, and battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.
Thomas was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 4:32 p.m. Tuesday and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
