William D. “Bill” Maddux

William D. “Bill” Maddux, 93, of Westport, passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Premier Healthcare Center in North Vernon. He was born on April 2, 1924 in Dewey, Oklahoma the son of John Wilson and Margaret Gertrude (Tumilty) Maddux. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County. He had attended school at Lehman, Woods, Letts and Westport High Schools. Bill had worked for Reiley’s Service Station and drove the bread truck for Bewley’s Bakery. He attended the Westport Christian Church. He was a veteran having served with the US Army during WW 2. He married Charlotte Vickery at the Westport Christian Church on June 5, 1948 and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Cynthia (Mike) Goodpaster of North Vernon and Dana Sue (Mark) Huntsman of Scipio; his sons, William Daryl Maddux of Westport, Jeff (Angie) Maddux of North Vernon and Darin Maddux of Hayden; his sister, Ann Dodd of Jacksonville, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, in infancy Deborah Kay Maddux; sisters, Jeanette Moffett & Audene Billieu and brothers, Kenneth Maddux & Donald E. Maddux. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors. The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Westport Volunteer Fire Department.
