MCDONOUGH, Ga. — A Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison for repeatedly raping his wife while holding her captive for more than nine hours.

Superior Court Judge Arch McGarity sentenced Michael Hamilton, of Ellenwood, on Thursday to two life sentences for rape and aggravated sodomy. In addition, he sentenced him to 10 years for false imprisonment, five years for terroristic threats and a year for simple battery — the maximum on each charge.

The Henry County District Attorney’s Office says the victim told McGarity that the ordeal was “like being in a torture chamber with a stranger.” During the trial, she testified Hamilton held a gun to her head and sword to her throat while he sexually assaulted her in September 2014.

Jurors found Hamilton guilty Aug. 17.
